Find a routine in some of the things that you do

In the unprecedented times many of us have found our routines turned upside down and the lack of routines may have left us feeling lost, out of balance, unsure, fearful or even vulnerable.  It’s human nature to feel safe to feel comfort in routine and so when that’s taken away it taps into our thoughts, our feelings, our emotions. It’s not surprising therefore that many of us are struggling to adapt to this new way of being, feeling a large piece of our lives that was there, has gone.  At this time, it’s not possible to reinstate those routines, that for now is out of our control.  However, what we can do is to create some new routines in our lives, routines that will give us a greater feeling of control, safety and comfort.  Now these routines will differ from person to person so it’s important that you find what works for you.  It may be getting out of bed at the same time each morning, showering and getting dressed.  It may be introducing an exercise routine, that you do at the same time each day, it may be scheduling in some you time or some family fun time.  Whatever you choose it should be personal to you, something or things that you do that reconnect you to routines and helps you to gain a greater sense of purpose, direction and control.
